The latest release of Remote Desktop Client from Microsoft allows automatic use of multiple monitors.
Windows 8 Professional onwards now allow spanning across multiple monitors using the Remote Desktop Client. When you open the RDC, before you login and connect, click on the Display tab and put a check-mark in "Use all my monitors for this remote session"
